Music Lunchbox

A speaker you can carry

Music Lunchbox was the first step in a practice of building and taking apart speakers. Made in 2017, it combines a backpack with space for two bottles, a lunch container, and a built-in 2.1-channel speaker system.

Built to be taken apart

Cardboard was chosen to explore a speaker that could be easier to repair and gentler in its material use. The layered structure supports the audio system while leaving space for the everyday objects it carries.

Light that listens

An Arduino-powered LED display and a microphone respond to sound in real time, adding a moving light element to the music.

Out in the world

The project was exhibited at Maker Faire in Tokyo in 2017 and New York in 2018. It received an Editor’s Choice award at the New York event.
